Today we launched a T-Shirt campaign fundraiser. The sale goes through Dec. 4th. These should arrive by Christmas so think of those on your list who will enjoy receiving a shirt and while you are at it, buy one for yourself. The Society will receive a portion of each shirt sold and will benefit the restoration of the depot.
Here's the link to purchase your shirts. https://www.bonfire.com/save-the-depot/ The Alabama Historical Commission awarded a grant of $10,250 to Fort Davis Alabama Historical Society. This will go a long way in restoring the depot.
We had a great time at the 1st Annual FDAHS Charity Dove Shoot! Lots of fun, got a few birds, and money raised for a great cause! Thank you to everyone who supported it! $2,000 was made on this dove shoot for the depot restoration project.
Glen Davis hand-delivered the Marker Application for the Fort Davis Alabama Historical Society about 12 pm this afternoon. This will be a 30" by 42" historical marker sign to be placed in front of the Depot.
Below is the wording for the marker. I have some exciting news!! Our Alabama Bicentennial Commission Grant was approved! This will provide $2,500 for the purchase of the historical marker to go in front of the Depot.
The FDAHS held a raffle for a 3-day turkey hunt. The lucky winner was Clay Corbitt! Thank you for all who purchased raffle tickets.
Today Ram Jack finished up their job on the depot. They have stabilized the building now. We were all glad to see this part of the restoration work get done since the building looked like it might fall at any time. Well that's the first step, but as you can see we still have a long way to go in this restoration project. More fundraising ideas are being discussed. Please help with a donation if you can. You can contribute right here on this website. We are happy to get even the smallest of donations as they add up to a large one. Thanks so much!
Finally, after many months of fundraising, we are excited to report of the first work being done on the depot. Yesterday, RamJack came out and poured some cement footings for the depot. This is the first step toward stabilizing the foundation. Prior to this a couple weeks ago they came with a backhoe and dug a trench to allow water to drain from under the depot. This was badly needed. Over the years the terrain had changed which allowed water to accumulate under the building which is never a good thing to happen. It may be hard to see, but if you look close you will see the gray mounds of cement just under the sides of the building. This is the ditch they dug previously to drain the water from under the building. As you can see, this is just the beginning. Please help us continue this project by your donations. We would appreciate it.
